Tim Robbins is an Academy Award winning actor. He founded The Actors' Gang in 1981, which featured Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the future members of the comedy-rock duo Tenacious D. (Robbins would make a cameo appearance in their 2006 film Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny.)
Film Career
Robbins built a name for himself as an actor with roles in films like Bull Durham (his breakout film), The Player, The Shawshank Redemption, and Mystic River. His performance in Mystic River earned him both the Oscar and Golden Globe awards for Best Supporting Actor (he has won two additional Golden Globes in his career). Robbins has also established himself behind the camera, garnering an Oscar nomination for Best Director for 1995's Dead Man Walking.
Activism
In addition to acting, Robbins has also been an outspoken liberal political activist and critic of the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. He publicly supported Ralph Nader in the 2000 Presidential Election.
