Tide is recognized as the first heavy-duty synthetic laundry detergent and is still one of North America's more popular brands of laundry soap. It has been manufactured by Procter & Gamble since 1946.
Proctor and Gamble makes Tide detergent in powder and liquid formulas. It comes with and without bleach options. Tide makes products with Stain Release, 2X Ultra Tide, Tide with Downy softener and Tide stain pen products.
In 1984 Tide's powdered detergent line was expanded to include the liquids. This movement started the line expantion into other arenas combining Tide with other Proctor and Gamble products like Febreze and Downy. Tide's newer lines include fragrances and capabilities from the two newer products.
