Thyroiditis is an inflamed thyroid gland which is located in the front of the neck. Most types of thyroiditis are caused by antibodies attacking the thyroid. Each type of thyroiditis requires a different method of treatment. Thyroiditis is diagnosed by examining the thyroid gland for swelling and tenderness or by a thyroid scan or biopsy.
