As part of the regular season schedule, the National Football League plays games on Thursday nights in addition to the normal Sunday and Monday games.
In the last Thursday Night Football game of the 2008 season, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 31-24, on December 18, 2008. Former Jaguars linebacker Richard Collier, who was paralyzed in September, was honored during the pre-game festivities.

The December 4, 2008, game between the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers will be screened in 3D in select theaters in Los Angeles, New York City and Boston. This is the first time the league has tested a game in 3D and will do so with help of 3ality Digital.
