Three's Company was a sitcom about a straight man Jack (played by John Ritter) who lived with two straight women, Chrissy and Janet (played by Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitt respectively). Unrelated straight men and women living together was considered taboo at the time. In order to appease their landlord Mr. Roper the girls tell him that Jack is gay. This leads to complications throughout the series.
