MGM Studios has signed the director duo of Peter and Bobby Farrelly for a comedic contemporary remake of the classic The Three Stooges.Variety: Farrelly Bros. to Direct Three Stooges (November 3, 2008) The movie will be released in 2010. The Production
The Farrelly brothers have been attempting to produce a remake of The Three Stooges for over 10 years, and contacted three studios with their plans. MGM Studios finally signed on to the movie. The brothers wrote the script and will co-produce the movie together with Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler. Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro are considered for the roles of Curly and Moe, while Sean Penn has agreed to play Larry. Jim Carrey plans to gain 40 pounds for the role of Curly. The production will begin in the early fall of 2009 after Penn finishes filming the drama Cartel. The Three Stooges was a comedy act which originally featured the characters Moe, Shempy and Larry, played by Moe Howard, Shemp Howard and Larry Fine.
