A live-action film based on the Marvel Comics character Thor is slated for a July 16, 2010, release. The film will follow the story of Dr. Donald Blake, a disabled medical student who discovers his true identity as the Norse God of Thunder after finding the mythical hammer, Mjolnir. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film, his first since his 2007 remake, Sleuth. Chris Hemsworth is slated to play the title role in the film.Cinema Blend: Captain Kirk's Dad Is Branagh's Thor! (May 17, 2009) An animated series based on the character is also scheduled to debut in 2010, to tie in with the film.

Thor in Avengers?
In the Marvel Universe, Thor is a member of the superhero team The Avengers. Marvel is planning an Avengers film for 2011 that would presumably unite the actors and characters from numerous other Marvel Studios projects, including Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle from the Iron Man franchise.
