Thor Animated Series

Marvel has announced plans to develop a half-hour animated series based on its popular Thor character. The show is slated for a Fall 2010 debut, soon after the release of a live-action Thor film to be directed by Kenneth Branagh. Marvel has organized several other cartoons based on its popular stable of heroes, including shows centered on Iron Man, Wolverine and the X-Men, Black Panther and the Avengers team.

In the Marvel comics, Thor's father, Odin, creates him as a combination of a god and a mortal named Donald Blake. When Blake, living as a human on Earth, discovers the Hammer of Thor, in transforms him into his true, god-like self and allows him to travel to Asgard, the realm of the Norse gods. Thor battles The Incredible Hulk in a segment of Marvel's 2009 direct-to-DVD animated film Hulk Vs.. In the 45-minute sequence, Loki, the god of mischief, organizes a fight between Thor and the only creature strong enough to defeat him, a mortal from Earth capable of turning into an oversized green monster.
