Thomas Hardy was an English poet and author. He is credited for beginning the Naturalist Movement. Examples of his work include Jude the Obscure and The Mayor of Casterbridge.
Career
While Thomas Hardy achieved limited popularity in his youth, his major success came at the age of 46 with the publishing of his hit novel The Mayor of Casterbridge. Hardy went on to write several successful books and collections of poetry. After being mobbed by crowds upon the release of Jude the Obscure, Hardy retired from writing novels.
