Thiago da Silva was a Brazilian Vasco de Gama soccer player. Silva was jumped by three assassins while on the soccer field on September 18, 2008. The three men handcuffed and tortured Silva, shooting him three times as he tried to escape the ambush. Silva died from his injuries on September 24, 2008, six days after the assassination attempt.
Officials believe that Silva's ex-girlfriend, Alyne Padula, and her aunt hired the men to kill him. The attack came soon after a discussion involving the end of Padula and his relationship.
