The Zombies Band

    • Origin: St Albans, Herts, England
    • Years active: 1961-1967
    • Record label: CBS Records, Decca Records
    • Studio albums: 4
    • Listed as a huge influence by the late Elliott Smith
    • Rod Argent went on to form the band Argent, which released the hit "Hold Your Head Up"
  • Led by pianist Rod Argent and singer Colin Blunstone, the Zombies never hit as big other British Invasion bands of the 1960s like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, but did score a Top 40 hit in the United Kingdom with "She's Not There."
  • Odessey and Oracle

The Zombies' only real full-album effort, Odessey and Oracle, was released in 1968 after they'd disbanded. It barely made a dent in the UK and was only released in the United States when Al Kooper lobbied for it. It took about a year, but "Time of the Season" somehow found its way onto radio and became a huge hit. Decades later critics have begun to warm to the notion that Odessey (spelled incorrectly by the album art designers) was one of the 1960s' finest efforts.
  • Four Decades Later

Argent and Blunstone reunited in March 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the release of Odessey & Oracle. They played three shows in a row at London's Shepherd's Bush's Empire Theatre.
