In the role-playing game The World Ends With You attack powers are equipped via small circular fashion Pins (called “psych pins”) that you attach to your character. There are over 300 Pins total in the game, each with a different brand, design and associated ability. The brand of the Pins are tied to popular fashion, so that wearing pins that are popular results in bonuses, but wearing out-of-date apparel (which goes for clothing too) will result in penalties. You can eventually carry up to six different pins into battle at once, and in addition two pins can be combined with each other to yield compound effects. Each Pin move is tied to a specific maneuver with the DS stylus, and is performed in battle by drawing that move on the screen. All of the Pins level up over time through use in combat, and some will eventually evolve into a different form entirely. If the DS is connected via Wi-Fi, the pins themselves will continue to level up when the console is shut off, gaing experience over time, but will not max-out.
