Background

Riding to fame during the Garage Rock revival of the early 2000s, the band became an underground sensation before finally breaking into the mainstream. Formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1997, their music deftly combines elements of Rock, Punk Rock, Folk and stripped down Blues and relies on a minimalist approach to songwriting and playing. Since catching the attention of music critics and fans, the White Stripes have continued to release a number of critically and commercially successful albums. Their last album, Icky Thump, was released on June 19th, 2007.

Brothers and Sisters

The relationship between Meg and Jack White has been a subject of much speculation over the years. While the band originally insisted that the two were brother and sister, documents seemed to suggest that the pair had, in fact, been husband and wife (before divorcing in 2000). In later interviews, Jack White explained that the subterfuge was designed to keep the public's attention on their music rather than their relationship.
