The West Bank

The West Bank derives its name from its location, on the west bank of the Jordan River in the Middle East. The area is under dispute, partially controlled and administered by Israel and partially by the Palestinian National Authority.

West Bank Barrier

Israel is constructing a series of fences and trenches around most of the perimeter of the West Bank, known as the West Bank Barrier. While supporters feel it will improve security for Israel, opponents argue it is an attempt to grab extra territory away from the West Bank for Israel, and that the difficulties the barrier imposes on Palestinians will, in the long run, lead to retaliation.
