The Waltons

The Waltons is an American TV series based on the life of a 1930s mountain family. The show ran on CBS from 1972 through 1981.

The story follows the Walton family as they struggle through the Great Depression and World War II. The story unfolds through the eyes of one of the primary character, John Boy, played by actor Richard Thomas. After John Boy goes off to college and becomes a journalist, the storyline begins to expand as the other child characters grow up and are more developed in the plot.

The success of The Waltons led to half a dozen made-for-TV movie sequels over a period from 1982 to 1997. Continued success of the show in syndication has led to the release of full-season DVD sets. Starting in 2004, Warner Home Video began releasing each season. As of April, 2008, seasons one through seven have been released, with eight and nine pending.
