Bitter Sweet Symphony
The Verve are best known for their hit single "Bitter Sweet Symphony" from the album Urban Hymns. The song featured a sample of a symphonic recording of The Rolling Stones song "The Last Time". Allen Klein, who controls the Rolling Stones' back catalog sued the band for using too much of the original. Klein sued the band and received 100% of the songs royalties. As a result of the lawsuit Keith Richards and Mick Jagger were given songwriting credits even though they had nothing to do with the recording of "Bitter Sweet Symphony".Breakup
The Verve broke up in 1995 after the recording of A Northern Soul. They reformed shortly after without guitarist Nick McCabe. In 1999 the group called it quits again due to tensions between band members. Richard Ashcroft would go on to release three solo albums, Alone with Everybody in 2000, Human Conditions in 2002, and Keys to the World in 2006.
Reunion
On June 26, 2007 it was announced the band would be getting back together to record a new album and tour. They were one of the many acts to play the 2008 Coachella festival.
