The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries will be returning for a second season on The CW that is on Thursday nights at 8/7c. The three leading characters are played by Nina Dobrev (DeGrassi: The Next Generation), Paul Wesley (Fallen) and Ian Somerhalder (Lost). The show is based on the book series by L. J. Smith but has made some big changes to characters and plot lines.

Season 1- "The Vampire Diaries" takes place in the small town of Mystic Falls. Seventeen year old Elena Gilbert (Dobrev) and her younger brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) have recently lost their parents in a car crash and now live with their Aunt Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning).

When the school year started Elena found herself drawn to the handsome and mysterious new student Stefan Salvatore (Wesley). Elena knows that Stefan is also attracted to her but can not figure out his sometimes odd behavior and feels like he is hiding something. Stefan is indeed hiding something-the fact that he is a vampire and so is his older brother, Damon. Elena eventually figures out the truth but can't stay away from Stefan because she loves him.

Before the Salvator brothers became vampires they were in love with the same girl, a vampire named Katherine (Elena looks exactly like her). She could not choose between Damon and Stefan so she changed them both into vampires. Damon is still in love with Katherine and is driven to be with her no matter what.

Elena is caught in the middle of the Salvator brothers as they are forced to work together to take on new vampires in town. Elena obviously cares for Damon and sees good in him but does not completely trust him.

Elena has only been able to tell one person the truth about the Salvator brothers, her best friend Bonnie Bennett (Katerina Graham). Bonnie also has her own secret that she shares with Elena. Bonnie is a witch.

The end of season one ended with a number of plot twists. Viewers learned the indentities of Elena's birth parents, found that there is something strange going on with the Lockwoods, are wondering about Jeremy's fate, and are left gasping as Katherine finally makes an appearance in the modern world.

Through out the show you will also meet Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig), Elena's ex, Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola), Elena's friend but sometimes enemy, and Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis), the new history teacher who is not what he seems.

Season 2- With Katherine in Mystic Falls the unexpected will happen. Friends will become enemies just as quickly as new and unlikely friendships are created.
