  • The Troggs are an English rock band, famous for their 1966 hit "Wild Thing," which reached #1 in on the US pop chart, and has since become an oldies and classic rock radio staple. Though they were technically part of the 1960s British Invasion, the band's brash, tuneful sound had a unique influence on subsequent bands, helping give rise to successive waves of garage rock, punk, glam and indie. Famous bands whose style owes a dept to the Troggs include The Stooges, T. Rex and Nirvana. While perhaps less directly influenced by the Troggs' sound, R.E.M. are dedicated fans, collaborating with the band on the 1992 Troggs album Athens Andover, as well as covering their 1967 light-pop hit "Love is All Around." Another popular song by the band is the rhythmic ballad "With a Girl Like You," which was featured in a key scene of the 1991 film Flirting.
