The Sugarhill Gang is the first hip-hop group to have a gold single.
Career
The band formed in the late 70's and well known known for their 1979 hit Rapper's Delight. This was the first ever rap hit, and became the biggest selling 12" single of all time. The group experienced limited success after Delight, releasing the singles Apache and Eighth Wonder as well as Showdown. In 1999 they got back together to release a children's album, entitled Jump On It!.
