The Squid and the Whale

    The film debuted at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, where it won awards for best dramatic direction and screenwriting, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.

    Baumbach's original screenplay was nominated for a variety of awards in 2005, including an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The National Board of Review and various critic's associated likewise voted the script as the year's best.

    The film appeared on over 200 critics' Best of the Year lists.
