Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
The newest Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, 'The Squeakquel' ,opened in theaters Christmas Day 2009. The movie was preceded by the release of a Squeakquel Video game for Wii and Nintendo DS. Alvin, Simon, and Theodore meet the Chipettes, singing female Chipmunks. The video game highlights the music competition between the Chipmunks and Chipettes and lets the player choose which to be. The game also allows them to play together.
In the movie, Alvin and his brothers are faced with the challenge of going to school and doing so while Dave is away in the hospital. Alvin's outgoing personality causes some troubles when he essentially abandons the Chipmunk singing group to make new friends and be a star among the other students leaving Simon and Theodore out of the picture. The Chipmunks were initially supposed to be representing the school in a competition for the change to win funds for school programs, but a former manager brings in a group to compete against them to represent the school. This is where the Chipettes enter the picture.
The Chipettes have been previously featured on Alvin and the Chipmunk cartoons but never in the movie. One of the most popular movie video clips and commercials is one of the Chipettes singing All the Single Ladies. The movie's plot focus on the Chipettes going to the school competition and the rescue by Alvin and the role he plays in getting them to the show in time to compete.
20th Century Fox is already discussing The Squeakquel: The Squeakquel or The Squeakquel, Part II The origins of Alvin and the Chipmunks dates back to 1958 when they were created by struggling musician Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. The Chipmunks have sold more than 40 million albums, and have earned five Grammy Awards with their Christmas song The Chipmunk Song.
