The Slits

Categories: Entertainment | Music | Rock | Punk
  • Conceived in 1976 without any trained musicality, The Slits are a female, English punk rock band that exemplifies the individualist do-it-youself ethos of early punk. The group, fronted by singer Ari Up, eventually adopted elements of funk and dub, interpreting these musical forms in a unique way that would prove influential to subsequent generations of rock artists. The band was considered iconic by the 1990s Riot Grrrl movement, and was an influence on Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill.
