John Anderson of Variety thought the film was "cloyingly sweet and gooey," but found the characters "little more than one-dimensional." The Hollywood Reporter's Michael Rechtshaffen wrote in his review that the movie was "nicely adapted and directed," finding actress Dakota Fanning "as impressive as ever" in her performance.
