  • Plot Synopsis

    • The story follows Lily Owens, a young girl raised by an abusive father in the 1960s. Lily believes that her mother had died at a young age, but her father tells her that she abandoned them. At the same time, Lily's nanny, Rosaleen had been imprisoned and beaten for insulting a group of racist white men. Lily decides to run away from home and breaks Rosaleen out of prison. They hitchhike to Tiburon, South Carolina, a town Lily's mother had once written about. They two take up residence at an apiary and Lily encounters the truth about her mother.
