  • The Scorpion King tells the story of a warrior, played by The Rock, who struggles to reclaim his homeland under the oppression of an evil Lord in ancient Egypt. With the help of the sexy and spirited sorceress Cassandra, played by Kelly Hu, he will attempt to rise to power and fulfill his destiny and become the fabled Scorpion King.

    The Scorpion King was directed by Chuck Russell who directed the films Eraser starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bless The Child starring Kim Basinger. The film is considered part of The Mummy franchise starring Brendan Fraser. The character of the Scorpion King was featured in the film The Mummy Returns where he was the antagonist. In this prequel, the film shows his heroic side, as he attempts to rise to power, and dethrone the oppressive kingdom of Lord Memnon, played by Steven Brand. The film grossed over $90, 341, 670 in the United States. The film opened to mixed reviews, but it was celebrated as an excellent showcase for Dwayne The Rock Johnson as he made his transition from professional wrestler to Movie Star. Reportedly a direct to dvd prequel is being made titled Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian, which documents Mathayus as a youth. The film will not star The Rock.
