The two had worked together in the house of Lord Darlington for many years. In flashbacks, we are shown how Stevens unwavering loyalty, sense of class, and professional pride kept him from acknowledging the unspoken love he and Miss Kenton shared.
  • Critical Reception

    The Remains of the Day was called a "tour de force" by Publishers Weekly. It received the 1989 Booker Prize, one of the highest honors of English Literature.
