  • Plot Synopsis

Ballet company director Boris Lermontov, played by Anton Walbrook hires Julian Craster, played by Marius Goring to compose the score for his company's new ballet, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Red Shoes. He also casts his new ingenue Victoria Page, played by Moira Shearer, who he is secretly in love with in the lead role. The ballet is a hit, and Victoria and Julian become stars. They have also fallen in love. Angry at discovering their relationship, Boris fires Victoria, effectively ending her dancing career. Some time later, after Victoria and Julian have married, Boris and Victoria have a chance encounter, and he asks her to perform "The Red Shoes" one more time.
