Plot Synopsis
Michael (David Kross), falls in love with an older woman Hanna (Kate Winslet), in Germany after World War II, while he is a teenager. Eight years later they meet again, when Michael is a law student observing the war crimes trials, and Hanna is one of the accused criminals.Lead Role Switch
Kate Winslet was the original choice for the lead role in The Reader but had to turn it down because of scheduling problems. Nicole Kidman was then cast as the lead but had to back out due to pregnancy.
