The Producers

  • The original 1968 film version of The Producers was writer/director Mel Brooks' first attempt behind the camera. He also won an Academy Award for the script, which tells the story of a Broadway has-been who, along with his formerly squeaky clean accountant (Gene Wilder), attempts to stage the worst musical in history so that it will bomb and they can keep the investment money.
  • Adaptations

The original film was adapted into one of the most successful Broadway musicals ever, which was in turn adapted into a 2005 musical film remake. Matthew Broderick played the straight-laced accountant alongside Nathan Lane's corrupt producer in both the musical and its accompanying film version.
