First published around 1699, four conversations and fifteen letters from this Carmelite lay brother were published in a little book titled, The Practice of the Presence of God. In it we learn how to engage in a continuous conversation with God - a way of faith, love, humility, and simplicity that anyone can practice anywhere at any time.

First published as a small pamphlet, then titled and published in Paris, France the following year as a small book, Brother Lawrence's 'The Practice of the Presence of God' immediately disappeared and resurfaced in Belgium where it was embraced by the first Protestant denominations. The original publication has never been found and there is, thus, no real authentic edition.
