The Portrait of a Lady

Henry James' novel The Portrait of a Lady was first published in 1881. In 1996 the book was adapted into a film starring Nicole Kidman as the main character Isabel.

The Portrait of a Lady follows the life of Isabel Archer, who inherits a large sum of money after her father's death. Spirited young Archer travels to Europe to meet her destiny, and what she finds becomes overwhelming.
