  • The Plastic Ono Band was a super-group from the late 1960s and early 1970s founded by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The band had an ever-changing line-up that, at various points, consisted of such stars as Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Billy Preston. In 2009, Yoko Ono revived the Plastic Ono Band with a completely new line-up that includes Cornelius, Yuka Honda, and Sean Lennon. (Ironically, the original Plastic Ono Band was dissolved because John Lennon wanted to have more time to raise his son: Sean.) Yoko Ono is the only person to be a constant member of the Plastic Ono Band.

The newest Plastic Ono Band album, Between My Head and the Sky, is being called one of the best albums of 2009. The AV Club called it "brawny, brainy avante-rock," and NME makes the claim that it is "the best work of (Ono's) musical career."Between Reviews: Between My Head ReviewsNovember 8, 2009
  • Career (with John Lennon)

The Plastic Ono Band was formed in 1968 by John Lennon so that he would always have a back-up band for any live concerts or albums. The original line-up consisted of only him and Yoko Ono. They made two albums with this line-up: Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins and Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions.
The second line-up (which was featured on Live Peace in Toronto 1969) consisted of Cream's Eric Clapton, Alan White (the soon-to-be drummer of Yes), long-time friend of the Beatles Klaus Voorman, Yoko Ono and John Lennon. The band was further expanded and changed when Ringo Starr and Phil Spector joined the line-up to help record the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band albums later that year.Billboard: Billboard Review1970 George Harrison was added to the line-up to record guitar and dobro parts for John Lennon's Imagine album.
The Plastic Ono Band had many different incarnations and was featured on several John Lennon and Yoko Ono albums until 1975, when John Lennon temporarily ended his solo career to raise his son Sean Lennon.
  • Career (after John Lennon)

In 2009, thirty-four years after the dissolution of the original Plastic Ono Band, Yoko Ono has reformed the group with a completely new line-up to help her record her newest album Between My Head and the Sky. In true Plastic Ono Band fashion the band will fuse avant-garde music with more conventional blues-rock; the new line-up features experimental avant-garde artists and "Manhattan improvisers."Altsounds: Between My Head and the Sky A few recognizable names in the new line-up include Ono's son, Sean Lennon, and Japanese experimental artist Cornelius.
In early 2010, Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman, and Jim Keltner of the original Plasitc Ono Band line-up reunited for a show with Yoko Ono's new Plastic Ono Band. On February 9, 2010, it was announced that Voorman and Keltner (along with Sonic Youth and Scissor Sisters) would be joining the Plastic Ono Band for the "Rehearsal" show on February 15.Yoko Ono Twitter: Twitter
