The Pixies were one of the most influential Alternative Rock bands of the 1980s until their breakup in 1993.
In 2004, they reunited for a world tour and have continued to perform on and off together since. They are scheduled to play at this year's Isle of Wight festival in the UK.Billboard: Pixies Back In Action With European Dates (March 13, 2009)
Career
After meeting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Frank Black and Joey Santiago started jamming together and eventually put an ad out for a bass player. After finding Kim Deal and rounding out the group with drummer David Lovering, the band released their debut album Come on Pilgrim in 1987. Producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Cheap Trick) was brought in to help the band record their follow-up album Surfer Rosa. The album was a success and helped bring the band into the mainstream spotlight.
Breakup
Reunion
The band eventually reunited in 2004 for a reunion that began with a set at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. While the Pixies did complete a highly successful reunion tour, their attempts at recording a new album were never realized.Billboard: Pixies Back In Action With European Dates (March 13, 2009)
