The Pains of Being Pure at Heart formed in New York City in 2007. Their name was taken from a short story called "The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart" written by a friend of band member Kip Berman. They released their self-titled EP on Painbow Records in 2007. The band's lineup originally only consisted of Kip Berman, Peggy Wang-East and Alex Naidus. Drummer Kurt Feldman joined the trio later. Their fuzzed out indie-pop sound often draws comparisons to My Bloody Valentine. In February 2009, they released their self-titled full-length album on Slumberland Records.
