The New World is a 2006 film written and directed by Terrence Malick, starring Colin Farrell, Christian Bale, Q'Orianka Kilcher and August Schellenberg. It was nominated for the "Best Achievement in Cinematography" Academy Awards. The film is about 17th century explorer John Smith, who falls in love with a native called Pocahontas during the clash between the Native Americans and English settlers .

Plot Synopsis
17th century explorer John Smith gets caught between a group of Indians and English conquerors, when he meets and falls in love with native Pocahontas. He is torn between his roots and his love for her when the Indians attack the fort he is president of. Pocahontas is taken hostage in the fort, and becomes more and more acquainted with the English manners. She falls in love another Englishman, wealthy John Rolfe. She must then decide between the two men. -
