The Misfits

  • The Misfits are a horror-themed punk rock band from New Jersey, the original lineup of which, led by singer Glenn Danzig, dissolved in 1983. Guitarist Jerry Only reformed the band in 1995 without Danzig, but it's the band's original period that most fans associate with the name The Misfits. The sound was a bizarre combination of catchy Ramones-esque melodic punk, with lyrics more gruesome than Alice Cooper's, and vocals in the key of Elvis.
  • Influence

The enduring influence of the Misfits can be heard in psychobilly bands such as Tiger Army, metal bands like Venom and Slayer, pop-punk acts like The Queers, and the darker end of the punk spectrum, ranging from lesser knowns like Electric Frankenstein, to MTV stars like AFI.
