  • The Mezquita de Cordoba is a Spanish Catholic Cathedral in the Andalusian region of Cordoba. When construction began in 600 ADAndalusia: Mezquita the original design was for a Visigoth Church but the plans were –reworked over the following two centuries and the building became a mosque in 784 AD.Hackwriters: Mezquita Travel Over the next several hundred years the city underwent numerous invasions and each new ruler added their own touch to the building. In 1226 the mosque was finally consecrated as a Christian church.Rough Guides: Mezquita Consecration The chapel was rebuilt in the 14th century and architects and builders continued to work on the cathedral until the late 18th century. The most prominent architectural features of the church are the interior rows of marble arches and pillars, though many of the original ones have been removed. The Mezquita is open to the public throughout the year.
