The Masters is a professional golf tournament held every April in Augusta, Georgia. It is considered the first of the four major golf tournaments held each year, along with the United States Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship. The tournament was originally co-organized by legendary golfer Bobby Jones, who helped designed the host course for the event at the Augusta National Golf Course.
2010 Masters
The 2010 Masters Tournament marks the return of Tiger Woods after his stay at sex rehab for a number of weeks. Woods checked into rehab following his November 27, 2009 incident involving him possibly being under the influence of some drugs and the car accident he caused as a result.
Tiger Woods' return to professional golf at the 2010 Masters Tournament is expected to draw a large number of viewers. Tiger Woods attracted just over 20 million viewers back in 1997 when he won that year's Masters Tournament.http://youbeenblinded.com/tiger-woods-back-to-golf-in-3-d-at-2010-masters/6453 Some news outlets have also wondered whether Tiger's return might attract more viewers then President Obama's inauguration.
The 2010 Masters Tournament will also be unique in that it is the first year 3D coverage of the event will be aired. Two hours of the event are scheduled to be broadcast by Comcast in 3D this year. Helping to provide this 3D coverage is IBM. Additionally, 3D glasses will have to be worn in order to see the content correctly. A 3D TV is also necessary too.
About
The tournament is unique for several reasons, as the winner is always awarded a green suit jacket and that it is the only major held at the same course every year. Additionally, the winner gains a lifetime invitation to play in the tournament. All caddies are required to wear a standard uniform of a white jumpsuit and sneakers and a green Masters hat. After holding the Masters Par 3 one-day tournament on Wednesday, the four-day official event begins with the honorary opening tee shot, a tradition since 1963.
Another unique feature about the tournament is that the organizing body has specifically worded broadcasting rights contracts with ESPN and CBS Sports to limit many aspects of the programming. There are very few commercials that air, the hours of coverage are limited and the use of cross-promotion for other network programming is prohibited.
