  • The Masters is a professional golf tournament held every April in Augusta, Georgia. It is considered the first of the four major golf tournaments held each year, along with the United States Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship. The tournament was originally co-organized by legendary golfer Bobby Jones, who helped designed the host course for the event at the Augusta National Golf Course.

The Masters 2009 began on April 9, 2009. Angel Cabrera won the tournament, defeating Kenny Perry on the second playoff hole.Masters.org: Masters Leaderboard

  • About

The tournament is unique for several reasons, as the winner is always awarded a green suit jacket and that it is the only major held at the same course every year. Additionally, the winner gains a lifetime invitation to play in the tournament. All caddies are required to wear a standard uniform of a white jumpsuit and sneakers and a green Masters hat. After holding the Masters Par 3 one-day tournament on Wednesday, the four-day official event begins with the honorary opening tee shot, a tradition since 1963.

Another unique feature about the tournament is that the organizing body has specifically worded broadcasting rights contracts with ESPN and CBS Sports to limit many aspects of the programming. There are very few commercials that air, the hours of coverage are limited and the use of cross-promotion for other network programming is prohibited.
