R&B group The Marvelettes originally consisted of Wanda Young, Gladys Horton, Anne Bogan, Georgeanna Tillman, Katherine Anderson, and Juanita Cowart. They are best known for Motown's first number one single, "Please Mr. Postman" (1961), which was also their breakout hit.
The Marvelettes did not have as many big hits as most Motown artists but maintained a high standard despite five different lineups. The group quietly dispersed in the early 1970s.
