The Marmoset Song

The YouTube video "The Marmoset Song" offers an unusual twist on The Shirelles' 1961 Motown hit "Mama Said." The video replaces the original lyric to the song, Mama said, with a caption that reads Marmoset. As The Shirelles sing Marmoset there'll be days like this, numerous photos of marmoset monkeys are shown.

Sample Lyrics

  • Marmoset there'll be days like this
  • There'll be days like this, my marmoset
  • My eyes are wide open
  • But all that I can see is
  • Chapel bells are callin
  • For everyone but me
  • But I don't worry cause
  • Marmoset there'll be days like this

Marmosets

Marmosets are small monkeys that live in South America. Pygmy marmosets are the world's smallest monkeys, with an average body size of between 4.7 to 6 inches in length. Pygmy marmosets (scientific name: Callithrix pygmaea) are primarily found in the tropical rainforests of Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. Most pygmy marmosets weigh a mere 4.20 ounces. The animals can leap more than 16 feet, making them adept at climbing and holding on to various trees as they feed on the sap.PBS Nature: Animal Guide: Pygmy Marmoset
