Lord of the Rings Blu-ray Release
Peter Jackson's movie trilogy became available on Blu-ray in early 2010. Reviewers were very impressed by the quality of the Blu-ray transfer, with one describing it as a "pole vault in quality" over the DVD versions.http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2010/04/05/35913-lord-of-the-rings-blu-ray-review/
However since only the original theatrical versions were released in 2010, with the extended edition not due til 2011 or 2012, many fans also felt that the release strategy was unfair and designed to take advantage of them. Since many fans already owned one or more version of the movies on DVD, many stated that they would not buy the Blu-ray version until the Extended Edition was made available.http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Picture-Theatrical-Editions/dp/B000X9FLKM/ref=pd_cp_d_2
