The Little Prince is a novel by French pilot and author Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This book can be read as a children's book and a fable.
Plot Synopsis
This book tells the story of a Little Prince from a far away corner of the Universe. He leaves his small asteroid to see the world and because the beautiful rose he loves tortures him with her unreasonable demands. He travels through the Universe and lands on the planet Earth, in the middle of the Sahara Desert, where he meets a pilot whose plane had crashed. The Little Prince learns about love and friendship on his journey. He in his turn has a lot to teach the pilot, especially about looking at the world through the eyes of a child.
Critical Reception
- "Translation grievances aside, the book is always worth introducing to kids. Why not pull out that old dog-eared copy tonight, when the sun is gone and the lights are low, curl up with a child, and remind each other of the true matters of consequence?" - Commonsense Media
- "This little book is certainly one of the best-known and most popular in French literature. Though at heart a children's story, it is rightly considered a classic in its own sense and is even found within respected French literary anthologies." - Amazon.com user reviews
Quotes
- "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly."
- "Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them."
