  • How Battles Work

The new RPG, The Last Remnant, employs a different battle system than most traditional RPGs. Rather than controlling one individual in a party at a time, players will need to group individuals into unions, which can then be controlled. There's a high degree of strategy involved in battle preparation as the members and formation of each union must be decided before the fighting begins.

Once the battle has started, the player can choose their level of involvement. They can give their unions vague commands, such as heal or attack, and then the union will decide for itself how best to execute that command. Likewise, players can choose to "Play It By Ear," which allows the union to fully decide for themselves the best course of action based on how the battle is progressing.

Another important element in battles is the morale of the unions. If morale begins to fall, the unions will start doing less damage and may miss more. On the other hand, if morale is good, the unions may gain attack bonuses.IGN: The Last Remnant Preview
