The battle system in
The Last Remnant is different than traditional RPGs and is fairly complex. Below is a list of things the player should be aware of before entering into a battle.
- Deadlock: If this happens all units will remain locked in battle with enemies until one or the other is destroyed.
- Morale Meter: Morale determines what kinds of actions the player can take in battle. The more morale, the more actions are available.
- Trigger Chance: At times during the battle, the player will have the chance to perform more powerful attacks by correctly timing additional button presses.
- Reinforce: Allows the player to summon large creatures to aid in battle.
- Sides of Attacking: Just like in traditional tactical RPGs, attacking the enemy from the rear or side results in more damage.
- Intercepted: The enemy is able to interrupt the player's attacks. This can be used to the player's advantage as it often triggers a timed attack.
- Encounter Trigger: By pressing a button, the player can summon all surrounding enemies into one large battle.
- Experience: Unlike traditional RPGs, players don't gain experience in The Last Remnant, however their health points increase based on their actions in battle.
- Act Timer: Allows the players to pick and choose enemies to bring into battle.
- HP System: Unlike traditional RPGs, all units that have been grouped into a union, share the same health meter. Once that's depleted they all die.
- Battle Formations: Just like other tactical RPGs the formation of the units in battle is important to keep in mind, as stronger characters are able to take more damage and therefore should be placed in the front of the formation.
