The Last King of Scotland is a 2006 historical drama about events surrounding the rule of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin (Forest Whitaker) and his bloody rule. Told from the fictional point of view of Amin's Scottish personal physician (James McAvoy), the film details a number of the key events in the life of the infamous dictator. Directed by Kevin MacDonald and based on the novel by Giles Foden, the film was critically acclaimed (most heavily for Whitaker's uncanny portrayal of Amin) and eventually went on to win him his first Oscar for Best Actor.
