  • The Last Castle is an action thriller film about a battle of wills, as General Irwin plots to overthrow the prison command of warden Colonel Winter.
  • Background

The Last Castle was directed by writer and directer Rod Lurie who previously directed the Academy Award nominated film The Contender with Joan Allen and Gary Oldman. He also directed the critically acclaimed films Deterrence with Kevin Pollack and Resurrecting the Champ with Samuel L. Jackson. The film opened to mixed reviews and performed modestly at the United States box office earning $17,924,798. The film experienced unexpected and unintentional controversy when it's ad campaign, originally featured an American Flag upside down, which means that a prison is no longer under control, but in the wake of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, and the sentimental nationalism of the time, the campaign was canceled.
