Although the Killers shot out of the gate in 2004 with their massively successful debut album Hot Fuss, their follow-up album, 2006's Sam's Town, was critically panned. Early reviews of their third effort have been generally positive and have noted that the album leans heavier on the dance-pop roots of their first album than the broad storytelling of Sam's Town.New York Times: What’s the Fuss? "The first thing you notice about the Las Vegas band’s superb new album is that the sharp melodic sensibility that ran through Hot Fuss, but was frustratingly absent from Sam’s Town, is back." —TimesOnlineTimesOnline: The Killers: Day & Age - the Sunday Times review (November 16, 2008)

"...the rousing "A Dustland Fairytale" moves from somber pianos to an orchestral conclusion so epic, you half-expect some kind of fairy godmother to swoop in and save singer Brandon Flowers. Too bad all that drama sometimes weighs down Flowers — he's developed quite a persecution complex."Rolling Stone MagazineRolling Stone: Album Review: The Killers Day and Age
