The Jesus and Mary Chain

  • The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock group started by brothers |Jim and William Reid in 1984. They are famous for pioneering a style of rock music called Noise Pop, which used the format of traditional pop and punk music but added layers of heavy guitar distortion and feedback. Though they broke up in 1999, they officially reunited the band in 2007.
  • Early Day Eccentricities

The Jesus and Mary Chain became notorious in their early days for playing short sets, sometimes just 10 minutes long, that consisted entirely of distortion noises. During these performances, the band would have their backs to the audience and refuse to speak to them.
