Though the J. Geils Band is often associated with their smash '80s hit "Centerfold," the band's history dates all the way back to the 1960s when guitarist John Geils began jamming with Danny Klein (bass) and Richard Salwitz (harmonica). The band signed to Atlantic Records in the early '70s and released a number of hit singles throughout the decade.
But their biggest success came from "Centerfold" and the title track from the 1981 album Freeze Frame. The follow-up record failed to match Freeze Frame's success, and the band broke up. They reunited for a brief tour in 1999.
